In Loving Memory - My Grandpa


LaDrue B. Dorton



LaDrue B. Dorton 7/26/1915 ~ 3/6/2009 LaDrue Basil Dorton, age 93 of Salt Lake City, Utah died Friday, March 6, 2009 of natural causes. He was born July 26, 1915 in Lehi, Utah, son of Basil Jonas and Reta Evans Dorton. He married Ellen Phillips Sept. 4, 1936. She died in Aug. 14, 1965. He later married Vel Thorley, May 9, 1968. She died in 2002. LaDrue had a long military career and attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. His service took him to several places in the country and overseas including Japan and Germany. Following retirement, he moved to Florida where he served on his condominium board and helped with legal and financial matters. He was an avid golfer and loved to attend activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survived by two sons and two daughters, Terry (Bonnie) Dorton, Provo; Douglas (Marge) Dorton, Taylorsville; Reta (Stewart) Rose, Toluca Lake, CA; Karen (Richard) Loudermilk, Clovis, CA; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wives, sisters, Phyllis Day, Jo Ann Toyn, and Glenda Hansen, and son, Joseph LaDrue Dorton. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wing Mortuary Chapel, 118 E Main, Lehi, where friends and family may call one hour prior to services.
